Seeing the Beauty of Birth through a Fine Art Maternity Session

A Fine Art Maternity Session

The Beauty and Magic of The Baby Bump

port huron michigan love maternity photographer.jpg

4 years ago I did a shoot at Paul Mitchell Great Lakes. There was an extremely talented young woman there who had brought her sister in to model her hair cut and color. It was one of my favorites I had captured all day.
Less than a year later we got to work with each other again. She was entering a contest and had me photograph two more models for her, showing off her talented and unique work.
And now here we are. Creating beauty together again like you wouldn’t believe!
Now a proud mama of a beautiful baby girl, Larisha sent me a message a few months back asking about a maternity session for her and her boyfriend, and showed me some examples of what she liked.
   Dark, moody, raw.
If that doesn't’ just explain everything I love.
It’s amazing what you can do with two people, 1 backdrop, the right lighting, and a vision.
The way I see it- this is Fine Art. This is Beauty, elevated. This is real life, made to look as magical as it feels.

3 years of Christmas with 3 beautiful kids

Whimsical, Cozy, and Classic Christmas portraits
to make your heart flutter

For the last 3 years I had these kids come to me for Christmas Minis. I couldn’t decide what year to show you, so I’m doing them ALL, because I LOVE all 3 of them, so so much. And I bet next year I’ll be making this story even longer, because they are obviously adorable and Mom has a way of making my heart skip a beat with her wardrobe skills! Not to mention the dark brown eyes and curly hair… ugh. Life is unfair that we can’t all be this stinkin’ cute!

Year 1- Whimsical Outdoor Christmas
Ok, so if I had to be honest, this might, by a tiny bit, be my favorite out of all 3 years, but that’s really too hard to say for sure. Me and Mom have this secret love for all things vintage when it comes to photos. So naturally I built my set to suit, and she just took it one step further making her kids (only 2 at the time) look like they stepped right out of a Charles Dickens novel. Swoon…

Year 2- Cozy at Home Christmas.
We had a big comfy chair, Christmas bed time stories, a fire burning, pure Christmas coziness. Due to the weather we tucked ourselves inside and it made for such a warm feeling.

Year 3- Classy Christmas
And I now introduce to you to the youngest little Jarbo. They are now a family of 3!
This year was all about classic yet fancy holiday style. And as you know- these kids ALWAYS have style. We kicked it up a notch with just the right amount glitter and sparkles to make it fancy, and the kids took care of the rest.
They are totally at the age where their personalities are bursting out, and it shows here! They just melt my heart!

2015 recap

Two Thousand Fifteen.
Where do I begin?

Port Huron Photographer- Family, Boudoir, Weddings

All these beautiful, unique, life changing squares before me.

My gosh. Every single one holds a face that has made me in to the artist, photographer, and person I am at this very moment, after another full long year of connecting with people through squares and rectangles that define who they are in just 1 moment of time.

The beginning of 2015 started out with snow, love, pin ups, and models. I got to photograph people in the first few months of this year that would become friends of mine, have babies, get married, go on to be successful in their careers, win awards… Every person in those first squares are so much more than faces to me when I look back.

At the very beginning of March my husband, Jake, and I went to Las Vegas for the biggest Photo Expo in, possibly, the world, WPPI. On the plain ride home I exploded a small notebook with ideas, inspiration, things I wanted to change, and ideas I wanted to create. That’s when The Revolution was born.

Around May I took about 1 1/2 months off of work. I go through phases with my art, like we all do in life, but at that point I had realized that, if I didn’t make a change NOW I wasn’t going to be able to make that HUGE jump in to the art that I've always been drawn to, that really makes me happy and keeps me feeling alive. I had to make a cut in the timeline, so I disappeared for a bit.

You will see a lot of little squares that are of me this year. It’s not because I love myself that much but I find that inverting inwards helps me understand situations better. Sometimes I find messages to myself in my work before I’m even fully aware there’s a message to be found. Through my self-portraits I pushed past what I was comfortable with, what I thought I knew, and started over. I let go of what was holding me back and pushed towards what made me happy. I found myself outside more, exploring more, and having a better understand of what actually made me happy when it came to creating for others.

From that time The Pillow and The Pond and Floating through the Veil was born, as was another piece I am still waiting to release.

After that the squares starts to shift back to everyone else. The people who keep my art alive- you.
We did so many gorgeous seniors, hot bridal boudoir, families, even a few babes! We got to experience being with hundreds of people for weddings, big commercial shoots, I even climbed 100 feet up in to a giant Michigan Sequoia to get some shots of climbers. You rolled around in leaves, climbed up and down hills with us, got sassy with an old retro truck, sun gazed, and threw around flour. You laid in ponds, jumped on trampolines in sweaty haunted buildings, and stuck antlers in your hair.

You made 2015 beautiful, truly, unremarkably beautiful. And I thank you for that. Over and over and over again.

Here’s to another years of beauty, stories, and fairytales brought to life.

cozy christmas- christmas minis

Another December upon us. Another Christmas Mini Shoot!
Every year I'm completely lucky and have the cutest families and kids come visit me for the holidays. We gather up everything sparkly and pretty and design a Christmas set for them.
This year we drug the studio bed outside and decorated the trees with bulbs. It turned out so magical. The little ones looked like little peanuts on the bed! And the families crammed in together for a really cozy Christmas portrait.
For it being December in Michigan, we TOTALLY lucked out that each day the weather was 45 degrees or better.
Take a look at the little friends that came to visit, some of them even all the way from London, Ontario, Canada!
