High School Senior Photoshoot brings Evermore vibes

*hit play on Willow by Taylor Swift and proceed.

First, let’s not focus on how far behind I am on blogging and how many years ago I shot this gorgeous girl. Let’s focus on how, even 2 years later, these images still feel timeless but in style. That’s my aim with every session- how we style and how I edit it. We want to bring a freshness to the shoot while being able to still look back on it 10 years later and have it not feel like we entered into a different dimension. haha

With that being said. Meet Meghan.

I love how we went from an orange flowy dress olive overalls. This is the main reason I love photographing Seniors. This is something they really embrace that my adult clients don’t- we as individuals do not have a personality built on 1 thing, one way of living, 1 way of being. We hold within us several different versions of ourselves, and that’s ok. You don’t have to wake up every single day and be exactly the same. Maybe one day you want to dress up and go out in the city. Maybe one day you want to dress rugged and go hiking. You can do that. You should do that. And the way we show that to the world in photographs is through our wardrobe.

The third location we visited was Marysville High School. This was a must. Meghan was in softball, volleyball, and basketball. I’m tired just thinking about going to god only knows how many practices and games over her 4 year high school period. haha This was a chance to show off her more serious and strong side, which I always love to see. It added a little grit and edge to her shoot, and again, embraces the different faces she puts on when she steps onto the field or court vs the face she wears with family and friends.

The last stop was downtown Port Huron and was designed around what we discussed in our first meeting to plan out her shoot.
One of the main things I remember was that she wanted a modern Stevie Nicks vibe. After that my imagination ran wild on how to bring that to life.

*hit play on Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks and finish up looking at this funky, fashion forward set!

Caleigh's Winter Senior Portraits- coffee, snowflakes, and dancing in tunnels

high school photoshoot winter cold.jpg

Caleigh is only a couple of weeks away from graduation. We squeezed in her Senior Couture Photoshoot in late Spring, which still means snow for us photographers in Michigan.
We started the shoot out in the studio. Chic and modern, yet still natural. When I used to think of “studio” portraits I used to think of boring, overly posed, basic portraits, but not anymore. I love movement and emotion and that is highlighted beautifully in the studio with such a simplistic approach. Not that you guys care but I also just got the biggest, most glorious lighting set up for the studio so the light looks incredibly natural even when we shoot at night now! Yay!
After that we snuck outside to get a few shots tucked away in the pine trees. The snow was just starting to come down and it was perfect for these fun outdoor shots, and look how cute she is with that fur hood on!
Next we traveled to down town Port Huron where the backdrop was mute, foggy, and had such a somber feel to it. Right on the water, it would have been perfect for a pirate scene in a movie. The rain boots and that pop of red was perfect here! When the flakes REALLY started to come down Caleigh changed and we took shelter in an old  train tunnel! This location has morphed over the years- I remember shooting here when it was full of graffiti and train tracks. Now it’s cleaned up but it still pairs awesome with her leather jacket for a edgy city girl look.
At this point in the shoot Caleigh was used to us making her dance, do hair flips, spin, laugh, and she was really starting to work the camera. I know it’s hard to drop that guard but once you do in front of my camera it’s beautiful! I won’t push you to that point, but we do our best to effortlessly and naturally pull it out of you!
This is honestly why our Couture Collection is so awesome- because of the diversity in outfits, locations, and because of the time together! It’s easy to see after the first 30 mins, and especially after an hour, the confidence that starts to come out and the personality that starts to show!
The last thing we did was celebrate our shoot with some Starbucks coffee, and that’s also where we shot the last outfit. With a little creativity and an artist's eye we were able to work around the people and the chaos to grab some really stunning images.

I absolutely love the portraits that we create with you, but honestly, the adventure of the shoot is just as important to us, because images will spark memories of the day, and we want you to look at these images years from now and relive the whole experience, relive how fun it was, how amazing you looked, and how free, confident and beautiful you felt!
The days of- we went to a studio, I got my pictures taken, here they are- are SO not what we’re here for.
I hope these images evoke laughter about how many times I asked Caleigh to flip her hair or spin for me! I hope recalling how HARD it was snowing and how cold it was will make them remember not only the time, the place, how it felt, how it smelled, how it looked, but also the moment and who she was at 17 years old, graduating high school, because they'll never get that time back, and it deserves to be preserved .

Port Huron, MI Winter Maternity Photoshoot

Dramatic Red Dress Outdoor Couple Maternity Shoot

winter beauty photoshoot.jpg

There are 2 ways you should show up for a portrait session-
1- As you are. But RAW. Don’t hide any part of yourself, be ready to release your true , natural self.
2- As a new side of yourself you’ve never seen before, experience yourself in a new way.
For Syme and Ryan’s Maternity Shoot they opted for number 2. When we first talked on the phone Syme told me she wanted to go all out for her Maternity shoot so she was breaking loose and doing everything she would never do for this moment in her life. She hates winter, she’s not one for dressing up... so of course she opted for a Winter shoot, in the snow, and she was even going to wear a floral crown.
Fun fact about the first time Syme and Ryan met- Syme was wearing sweatpants and a Tupac shirt. My day was made when I heard that, as she’s standing in front of me, polar opposite, looking like an Iceland Snow Mermaid in this red dress that fits her perfectly and also screams a lil Jessica Rabbit! She’s this little thing with a beautiful, bold personality to make up for her short height. Ryan is more quiet and sweet, but the way he looks at her and the way she smiles at him lets you know- these two are the real deal.
Our first meeting was hilarious, talking about how magical their shoot was going to be that all the forest animals would probably run out of their dens to circle around her like this woodland Goddess, which, yes, she’s not that big into nature, but if that happened, she said she wouldn’t complain. We got a bit carried away.
So, of course, the day of their shoot the snow melted. In a panic my creative brain kicked in and I knew I just needed something to mimic that whimsy feel. I found a hard pile of plowed snow in the corner of a parking lot and that’s what we used to create our magical snow mermaid shots. Sometimes you just have to trust the photographer’s vision.
They went from spinning and dancing in the pine trees, to elegantly swaying with the wind on the icy beach shores, to lastly cuddling up on top of a snow pile.
It was effortlessly stunning, it was true, it was love, and it was just in time bc that itty bitty, sweat pea of a baby came earlier than expected, less than a week after this!
