Girlfriend + Boyfriend turn Fiances in front of my lens- Port Huron Engagement Photographer

12 years ago Chris and I sat in Art Class together in high school, talking about things that probably weren’t important but made us laugh. These days we talk on the phone about how he’s met the girl of his dreams and she has no idea he wants to propose to her during a photo shoot with me. We still laugh, but it’s about more serious things, like when he says, “If she says no, this will probably be the only time you will see a grown man beg, but just keep shooting.”

The big day comes and we meet at the top of Beards Hill. Chris pulls up in his huge welding truck. Becca hops out of her huge truck- beautiful, curly auburn hair, white dress, finished off with cowboy boots. It’s obvious Chris has met his match.

She thinks we’re just here to get nice pictures of the two of them; he knows his life is about to change once we get to the bottom of the hill and I give him the signal.

It rains on and off the whole time. We have the whole hills to ourselves and hide out under the canopies. When we reach the bottom the rain kicks up the mist, but this is the moment, and nothing else matters. We convince her this will probably be our last stop, and to just wait while we get everything set up.

My assistant Taylor and I decide we’re going to perch them on top of a big rock jutting out of the water and proceed to take awkward photos of ourselves, as we always do, to check our light. We giggle the whole time thinking, "I know something you don't know!" on top of being so excited for Chris. When everything is set, we have them come out and get “posed.”

Chris knows his cue- I tell him to “pose” on one knee. Becca looks at me and at him as if that’s the most awkward pose I could suggest until… the ring comes out.

After that there was a lot of yelling, squealing, laughing, kissing, and hugging, but the best part was when she was so in shock she turned around to run away and found herself with nowhere to go on top of the rock.
Here's a taste of what we mean..

Live Proposal during Photoshoot in Port Huron, MI

It was a beautiful moment to watch unfold. To be asked to be a part of it was truly magical. You can’t help but smile the whole time, to the point of your cheeks hurting.

We ended the shoot right where we started, back on top of the hill. Many others wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the shots, but they will always be able to. It’s the moment they went from being boyfriend and girlfriend, to an engaged couple, soon to be husband and wife, forever.

Tomboy crosses over in to a fairytale at sunset- St. Clair High School Senior photo shoot

Tomboy crosses over in to a fairytale at sunset- St. Clair High School Senior photo shoot

Jordan has an eye for seeing beauty in the things many other people might not, like rusted out jeeps, overgrown greenhouses, tall grass, and crumbling tree forts.
I photographed her brother 2 years ago, so I was really, really excited when her mom (who is just a little, bubbly, hysterical ball of sunshine in a petite package) called me to say she was coming back to me with her daughter!
When we met in the studio to talk over what she was envisioning she told me her boyfriend’s family has a ton of property with a TON of stuff on it, and then proceeded to draw a little map for us. Let the treasure hunt begin. Oh, and horses, they have horses!
This gorgeous tomboy had decided on jeans and flannel, what you can usually find her in while riding, a couple of cute tops, and then, a dress, because, why not!? This was my first clue she was hiding something under those t-shirts and yoga pants.
My assistant and I pulled up and hopped on the deck, which towered over everything we had been told about, and more. It was a rusted out playground for us. I’ll take rust, rot, and chipping paint any day over perfection, it’s totally over rated.
Jordan can definitely keep up with the boys, which I dig, but… this rough and tough girl gets in front of my lens and I just watch these layers of what I thought I knew about her melt away. Once hair and makeup was done we dove in, hopped on top of the Jeep, and started to shoot with the sun pouring in from behind. Her eyes told me she secretly wasn’t afraid. She knew how to move, she knew what I would be looking for before I even said it. I’m certain in that exact moment, a model was born, or had been hiding and waiting for this exact moment to bust out. Sometimes we just need an excuse to release a different side of us.
Next we headed back towards a tiny cabin in the woods. You want to know what a true life fairytale looks like? Drive a few miles back in to the woods with a pretty girl, put her on a golden horse, and watch as the sun sets behind the trees off in the distance. There came a point where Taylor and I had to physically peel ourselves away from everything so we could pack up and go. I could have photographed Jordan for hours.
   Cant’ you see why?

A girl and her horse- a country session by ajbc photography (port huron, michigan photographer)

"Just me and my horse." That's what Danielle said she wanted when she booked with me. No fake frills, no crazy poses, just her out in a field by her house, loving on her baby- Secretly Branded.
I just LOVE how this session turned out. We had to shoot in the rain and it was totally worth it. The colors, the mood, the feel... it's all breathtaking. I love how the trees in the filed almost make us look like we are someplace with mountains too. *sigh* Perfection. Both of them. All of it.
I've always wanted to photograph a girl and her horse and this was totally worth the wait.
