Ethereal and Retro Style Senior Shoot
in downtown Port Huron

   I like to think we all have a secret “us” hiding inside,
waiting for the world to either accept us,
or waiting for us to accept it’s time for the world to meet us!
Meet Elise, this is her AJBC story.

   The first time I met Elise she was a cute Senior about to graduate, what some may call shy, but ever so sweet.
   We planned her shoot around her many talents- dance, color guard, photography, and singing. Not many people could have a shoot that encompassed so many beautiful and expressive talents, but Elise is honestly probably hiding more.
   The day came and we started out with more outfits than you can imagine! They FILLED the studio. Dance costumes from recitals, gowns, fashionable pieces, jewelry passed down from family, yards and yards of fabric and fun props. You could tell we weren’t just about to photograph a Senior, she was about to put on a live show for us, and that she did.
   Our first look was pointe, and to be honest, we photographed this look on a back dirt road, partially in a ditch.  We let the dust settle and then… Elise began to flow. Her body was calm yet precise and it was beautiful to watch.
   Next we headed downtown where she took what many would look at as a basic flag and turned it into visual art. But this is where we saw this inner fierceness come alive! Pure magic!
   After that we played it a bit more low key, cute city girl look in a coffee shop. We did some fun hair whips, got some drinks, and captured her sweet side, for sure.
   Lastly we headed back to the studio where Elise boldly rocked this red sequined gown, while looking ever so timeless. I’ve never seen someone morph so effortlessly, so flawlessy.

   Elise, all these characters you rock, that fire you hold deep in you, let them rage, lady!

Tayler- I don't know for sure but I'm assuming she's the girl that all the boys want to hang out with AND date. She's the perfect mix of tomboy and natural beauty. She's fashionable, fun, but not afraid to get dirty, hike through the woods, or hunt. She can keep up with the boys, but isn't totally one of the boys. 
   I love girls like this! Don't let your beauty hold you back. Don't let your wild side tame your beauty. 
   Her session was so fun. Part 1 was literally photographed in a ditch off the side of the road. I was positive Tayler could make any location beautiful, so I wasn't worried. 
   Next we went out to the country where she hunts and climbed some trees. Because, well, why not. After that we went to down town Port Huron and photographed along the cute shops and city streets as the wind blew her hair just perfectly. We ended at the McMorran Hockey Arena where we got some gritty stadium images.

Port Huron Northern High School Senior Model Inspired Shoot

A Down Town Alley and Country Back Roads-
a Port Huron Senior Session

   Back in the studio we couldn’t stop talking about Marissa and “that look.” I still don’t know exactly what it is but she just has this subtly unique look that fools me in to thinking she’s a fashion model every time I look at her portraits. But it’s not 3 layers of makeup and crazy hair dye. It’s just that natural beauty she’s rocking.
   Marissa sent me two images to plan for her session- a girl in a back alley and a girl sitting in the middle of the road with mountains in the background.
   The mountains I knew I couldn’t get her.... but beautiful hills in the middle of a Michigan Fall, I could do that! And the alley ironically looked identical to a little back alley we use in Down Town Port Huron.
   We went from back roads to city, jeans to a dress. She did fabulous at both places, carelessly and flawlessly.
  But don’t take my word for it- see for yourself!

From Grunge to Whimsical- a Senior Session

   This day was a whirlwind of so many amazing things. Grungy buildings, walking on rooftops, amazing coffee, so many laughs, and snow!
   We started our adventure in an old building in Down Town Port Huron. The section we shot in is practically abandoned. And that’s what I love about it. My great grandma actually worked in that building when she was in her 20s… that’s how old and amazing this building is!
   We tore open the chipping windows and Aubrey crawled out on to the roof, her long, long blond hair whipping in the wind. I know being beautiful is done a little bit more effortlessly when you’re young, but Aubrey just honestly made it look totally effortless, and simple. And that’s how we started our session.
   Next we drove to the most adorable coffee shop ever- The Exquisite Corpse Coffeehouse. We grabbed 4 delicious coffees and refueled. While we were there we grabbed some shots and then noticed- it was snowing!
   We ran outside and captured Aubrey while little snowflakes danced in the sky. I know that sounds cheesy but it honestly was that magical. We had been hoping for snow and out of nowhere that day, we got it!
   After that we stopped by The Blue Water Bridge. Normally I’m not a huge fan of super obvious landmarks, but if we can take all of it’s unique qualities and use those, instead of what everyone else focuses on, I’m happy. And the huge rocks and weathered dock was just what we needed. Again , our Senior rocked it!
   Lastly we came back to the studio and the snow had piled up. It was covering the trees, it was thick on the ground, and then Aubrey came out in her dress. A floor length, blush pink, sequin dress. And an instant fairytale was born. She is in love with the movie Frozen, and we wanted to take a little inspiration from that, but I feel like she honestly did one better.
  So myself, Taylor, Aubrey and her mom Amy (who is just as beautiful and awesome) all ventured out in to the woods together to finish up the session. I had to force myself to stop shooting. Everything was perfect, and it easily could have went on for hours.
