Senior Session on the Shores of Lake Huron

Marysville High School Senior Session portrays magazine ad model look

Gorgeous, Fun, Free, Dramatic Senior Session shot in Lexington, Michigan

beautiful senior photos on lake michigan photographer senior 2017.jpg

Photographing Mackenzie’s Senior Portraits was more like going on a fun road trip then “working.”
We started at the studio and took a few beautiful shots outdoors, under the willow, in the fern garden… we kept it very natural.
Next we drove down the road for about a minute and stopped at a street corner. Nothing fancy- just a beautiful girl playing in the flowers, laying in the field. Simplistic and gorgeous.
We carried on North to Lexington, Michigan where we stopped at a little coffee house and crabbed a couple of drinks while Mom did a little extra shopping, walking away with tasty wine and fresh local bread. We took a few shots in and around there and then scooted up the coast to a hidden, extremely rugged spot on the lake.
We crawled and splashed around a crumbling boat dock as the sun set. It was literally, no pun intended, picture perfect. Check it out for yourself and go on this beautiful road trip with us!
And be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom to watch a short film we put together for Mackenzie!

Senior Session- 1 amazing teen with 6 different personalities

A senior session with diamonds and guns, mud and dresses.

port huron michigan gorgeous senior photoshoot in gown.jpg

It makes me happy when I meet a girl who can push boundaries but not be afraid to give back. A girl who can wear diamonds well, but doesn’t freak out when she falls in mud. A girl who can look like a lady in an evening gown but can out shoot the boys in the woods.
   That’s Tiffany- exactly.
Not to make me sound old, but she’s a reminder to me that there’s still girls out there that are going to grow up and lead this world and make it a better place. There’s still girls out there that people can be proud of.
Her shoot took us 2 different days to complete due to the fact we went from spinning in circles in a brand new prom dress in front of a handmade backdrop I had made, to grabbing guns and boots and hiking down the muddiest hill I’ve ever seen! We also grabbed amazing coffee in Croswell and climbed around some old buildings in Goodells. We were literally all over the place!    I LOVE shoots like these. Because shoots like these aren’t really shoots. They turn in to fun days of exploring with new friends.
Check out what we did on our little adventures together:

(OH! And scroll down to the bottom to see what everything thing looks like behind the scenes on BOTH days of our shoot!)

A Summer and Fall Senior Photoshoot with fields, cliffs, graffiti and 1 amazing model

A to die for Summer and Fall Senior Session.

Beauty in an open field, adventure on a hillside cliff. Mystery down wooded paths and
graffiti splattered overpasses.

Many of us don’t know what it feels like to be a model. And most of the time, your Senior Portraits are the first opportunity you get to have that experience, but it won't turn in to your job. It’s an amazing thrill to know what it feels like to be a model for a day. Except when you’re Amanda. And your Senior Session is so rockin’ that it lands you a TRUE modeling gig right after.
Meet Amanda, a drop dead gorgeous Senior at St. Clair High School. We met in late Spring to plan for her Summer session. She wanted country fields, tree swings, beauty, carefree, and different! I could tell this girl liked back roads and some fun in her life. But we also wanted to keep it light and beautiful. We then decided we were going to do something in the Fall too to switch it up.
The first time we shot we stuck around the home studio. We cut up old books and scattered the pages in the wind. We stacked up books, hauled a chair outside, and I just watched as those open fields tried to swallow her up, but she stood out, beautifully and boldly.
Next us 3 girls (Amanda, Taylor my assistant, and myself) piled in to my car and drove way out on the back roads to our next secret spot, laughing about all the really bad fashion trends we had lived through when we were young- like full body DMC jump suits. Once we got to where we wanted to shoot we just walked in the woods, stopping wherever we felt like it. Looking off the edges of cliffs, and running from “dead bodies” we thought we saw. I mean, come on, we’re 3 girls, alone, in the woods. We’re ridiculous!

Fast forward: A couple of weeks after that I land a commercial job for a company, requesting I bring models in to wear their gear. In that email is also a request for Amanda. They saw her sneak peek on my page and asked if I could contact her for the shoot. And the rest is history. In that moment she became a true model. I was ecstatic for her.

In the Fall we got to do everything all over again! Exploring through the woods, climbing under over passes, and climbing trees. This girl was a blast. A shout out to Dad needs to happen too- who is clearly a secret amazing stylist because he’s responsible for her all her wardrobe you see here.

Take a look at all the fun we had together and try not to get too jealous you didn’t get to play with us too!

2015 recap

Two Thousand Fifteen.
Where do I begin?

Port Huron Photographer- Family, Boudoir, Weddings

All these beautiful, unique, life changing squares before me.

My gosh. Every single one holds a face that has made me in to the artist, photographer, and person I am at this very moment, after another full long year of connecting with people through squares and rectangles that define who they are in just 1 moment of time.

The beginning of 2015 started out with snow, love, pin ups, and models. I got to photograph people in the first few months of this year that would become friends of mine, have babies, get married, go on to be successful in their careers, win awards… Every person in those first squares are so much more than faces to me when I look back.

At the very beginning of March my husband, Jake, and I went to Las Vegas for the biggest Photo Expo in, possibly, the world, WPPI. On the plain ride home I exploded a small notebook with ideas, inspiration, things I wanted to change, and ideas I wanted to create. That’s when The Revolution was born.

Around May I took about 1 1/2 months off of work. I go through phases with my art, like we all do in life, but at that point I had realized that, if I didn’t make a change NOW I wasn’t going to be able to make that HUGE jump in to the art that I've always been drawn to, that really makes me happy and keeps me feeling alive. I had to make a cut in the timeline, so I disappeared for a bit.

You will see a lot of little squares that are of me this year. It’s not because I love myself that much but I find that inverting inwards helps me understand situations better. Sometimes I find messages to myself in my work before I’m even fully aware there’s a message to be found. Through my self-portraits I pushed past what I was comfortable with, what I thought I knew, and started over. I let go of what was holding me back and pushed towards what made me happy. I found myself outside more, exploring more, and having a better understand of what actually made me happy when it came to creating for others.

From that time The Pillow and The Pond and Floating through the Veil was born, as was another piece I am still waiting to release.

After that the squares starts to shift back to everyone else. The people who keep my art alive- you.
We did so many gorgeous seniors, hot bridal boudoir, families, even a few babes! We got to experience being with hundreds of people for weddings, big commercial shoots, I even climbed 100 feet up in to a giant Michigan Sequoia to get some shots of climbers. You rolled around in leaves, climbed up and down hills with us, got sassy with an old retro truck, sun gazed, and threw around flour. You laid in ponds, jumped on trampolines in sweaty haunted buildings, and stuck antlers in your hair.

You made 2015 beautiful, truly, unremarkably beautiful. And I thank you for that. Over and over and over again.

Here’s to another years of beauty, stories, and fairytales brought to life.
