Port Huron Photographer captures Senior quiet yet dramatic side

Guy Senior Photoshoot on the
shores of Lexington and in the forest of Port Huron

Marysville Senior Photographer

senior photoshoot in abadoned building.jpg

There was a time when I considered not photographing Senior guys anymore, just focusing on the girl Seniors. Girls always seemed more excited and more involved when it came to their shoot. I wanted to create images for people who appreciated them, and guys always said they never cared. That was until a few years ago when I photographed a Senior guy with the same old story- who’s mom had called and told me her son didn’t care at all about getting his portraits taken, but it was important to her.
Like any shoot I ever do, it’s my main priority, I’m there to create something memorable and impacting for not only those being photographed but those viewing the photos too. And that’s what I did with that shoot, for mom, and for him, regardless of what he told me. I also made sure to really take into consideration this Senior’s style, what he was into, who he was, and how he envisioned these, even though he sad he didn’t care.
After seeing his portraits for the first time it was really obvious that wasn’t true. He was so proud of himself and loved each and every image. He just kept commenting on how good he looked and how great the shoot was. That’s when I realized- guys can say and act however they want about this whole process, but just like girls, just like anyone, they want to feel good about themselves, they want to show off what they’ve worked really hard for, and they want to be celebrated in their last year of high school!

Thank god I didn’t stop photographing guy Seniors, because if I had, I would have missed out on the opportunity to photograph this handsome guy! Dylan never expressed to us that he didn't care about his shoot, he was the total opposite, he would smile and agree to almost anything. His mom and sister were also a huge part of the shoot, which was so cute to watch them all together
Dylan is the true definition of a charming guy. He’s a little quiet, he’s got the cutest little smirk, and I think he might even have the tiniest of southern accents some how. His outfits stayed true to his style- chic and simple, but not in a bad way. Some guys just don’t need all of that. He loves the outdoors so we hit up every look we could- woods, water, city, country back roads with an abandoned house. His smile photographed great, but when he rocked that serious face I’m sure young girls hearts were and are still melting.

I’m glad I never trusted those other guys when they said they didn’t care about their Senior Portraits. We’ll continue to photograph guys here just to prove them all wrong- that we can and we will make you swoon over your own pictures and be damn proud of yourself when you’re done with your shoot with us. Because whether these guys like it or not, we all need a reminder of all that we have to offer, and portraits are a powerful way of visually expressing that.

Port Huron Northern Downtown Senior Photoshoot

Senior Photoshoot shows off

strong yet feminine athletic side
along with sweet and fashionista side

at Port Huron Northern and downtown Port Huron.

I like a girl who can pull off 4 different looks in the same day. It tells a lot about your personality and shows diversity.
Allie started out preppy and cute with her polo and glasses, switched it up to gorgeous in a cream dress floating in the water, got a little sassy with her grungy downtown look, and then really rocked it for her sports look.
I’m going to be honest- I love shooting portraits that feel model / fashion like. It’s a little moody, a little edgy, it’s fresh. I never find Sports photography fits into that… but I LOVED Allie’s sports look. This photoshoot totally changed my mind about that! She still looks feminine but in a very strong way. Her curls don’t get in the way of her boldness.
Picture this. We were also working against an over crowded, badly lit gym. I’m talking 20 girls whipping volleyballs at our heads, no windows, ugly yellow lights. But we busted out some off camera flash and that just gives it this gritty, impactful, commercial look. She just rocked it.
Strong girls make me happy and when you can jump over hurdles as high as my chest and do a push up on 2 basketballs, well, that falls into the category of strong and bold with me.
  You go girl.
So you guys need to scroll down and see all of what I’m talking about!

Bohemian Senior Session-
grace in your heart and flowers in your hair

Pro Golfer worthy shots at Lakeview Hills Golf Course

field full of flowers outdoor beauty senior girl photoshoot.jpg

Flowers in her long blond hair, wind and sunshine dancing on her skin. Sam's photoshoot was one of the first shoots we did this year and it set the beauty bar high! Not only is she gorgeous she's genuinely the sweetest!

We had a total girls day- picking flowers, going to the beach, and then ending the day with ice cream after our shoot! Oh, we also did a little golfing, and off-roading on the gold course.

Sam really wanted her images to feel warm, and have that "glow" so it figures the day of her shoot clouds had been covering the sky all day. I assured her photoshop could fix what mother nature left out for us and we decided to do the shoot. When we walked out to the field to shoot we had no idea we were going to find an elegant explosion of wild flowers. It was honestly the best surprise. We had no idea this outfit was going to turn out THIS stunning, sometimes you have to ditch your plans and just let things flow and follow what feels right.

After that we shot at the Lakeview Hills Golf Course where we had 9 holes completely to ourselves, and a cart to explore with! I love how professional she looks in all of those portraits, not to mention the look of a true athlete.

We ended on the beach with HIGH winds. The waves were crashing at least 15 feet up the side of the rocks. It was amazing to watch, and a little intimidating. Normally you wouldn't think hurricane winds would be ideal conditions for a Senior Beauty Photoshoot but I was instantly excited about it! Her hair flew everywhere- it really gave the portraits that organic, care free vibe, not to mention a look you just can't create on a normal day. And then finally... like she hoped, the sun peeked out and we ended on that magical note.

Just a couple of country kids.

A love that's country song worthy.

Couple celebrates their love
with a natural, back road photo shoot.

backround lovers country couple michigan couple photographer.jpg

That goofy in love stage. Not many keep that feeling alive, but Brad and Melissa act like they’re still 2 young kids on one of their first dates, and it’s adorable to photograph.
They wanted to keep it simple, and true to who they are. They told me of the stories of when they first met and how they didn’t have a lot of money so they spent a lot of time on the back roads.
They would buy a case of beer, fill up the cooler, head out, fish, cruise, and just enjoy each other.    It was so low key and sweet to recreate that. And of course the beers were real, because, I mean, we’re going 100% authentic here!
Watching Melissa stick her tongue out at Brad and Brad scoopher up in his arms and spin her in the middle of the dusty road as the sun set off in the distance, it was super easy to capture that emotion of love because it was so obviously still alive in them!
And then to celebrate we cracked a cold one open in the middle of the studio driveway afterwards. Perfect way to end the night.
   Cheers!
